The Doctor – Patient Relationship

Dr. Richard A. Oddy | Resume

Psychiatrists have been pressured to rely more often on medications prescribed during very brief visits, a “prescription” recommended by managed care insurance and pharmaceutical companies. However, Dr. Oddy views the relationship as central to treatment and recovery. Without time and attention to the meaning of patients’ suffering, medication-based treatments in the end can fall short. Dr. Oddy does not compromise on the time or attention needed to evaluate or treat his patients’ or families’ symptoms or difficulties.

In order to provide the best care with this philosophy and least external restrictions Dr. Oddy does not cooperate as an in-network provider on network panels. Dr. Oddy is an out-of-network provider and will provide patients with a “super-bill” for all visits monthly facilitating full reimbursement from the health insurance company for out-of-network reimbursement allowable under the specific plan.

Diverse Training, Outstanding Skills and Credentials

Dr. Oddy combines the scientific knowledge of the human body as a physician, medication treatment (psychopharmacology), as well as experience and skills as a psychotherapist and does not compromise the best treatment practices in terms of developing a relationship with a patient, making a diagnosis and managing treatment options.

Dr. Oddy trained as a physician/MD at one of the top medical schools in the United Kingdom (University of Cambridge). There, in addition, he received an MA in neuropharmacology.

He is board certified in Holistic Psychiatry, with particular attention to management of illness using natural treatments alone or in combination with other treatments.
